Silver

Micro silver is a specially treated form of pure silver. Micro silver has antipruritic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and cooling properties. Therefore it is used successfully in therapy-related care of neurodermatitis and psoriasis and in case of impure skin because of the antibacterial effect. BIOTURM is only using micro silver in its products, no nano silver. The micro silver remains on the skin until it is being washed off, it does not penetrate into deeper dermal layers.

Alum

Ammonium Alum

Origin:

Alum is a natural mineral extracted from alum shale. It is a natural mineral crystal. However, crystals can also be grown from a supersaturated solution of sulphuric alumina and water of crystallization. The more often the crystals are dissolved and crystallised in this procedure, the more pure and tolerable the artificially produced deodorant crystals are.

Potassium Alum and Ammonium Alum are used in certified natural cosmetics. They are said to be natural mineral active substances with antiperspirant functions.

Effect of an alum crystal:

After moistened with water a protective acid mantle is formed on the skin. It prevents the growth of bacteria and thus the development of body odours. It has astringent, styptic and disinfecting properties and is therefore suitable after shaving (face, armpits, bikini line, legs).

Risk of confusion:

The sulphuric mineral salts of alum are often confused or equated with Aluminium Chlorohydrate, whereas both substances are totally different.

The artificially produced chlorinated aluminium salts used in conventional deodorants are suspected to pass the skin barrier and to be absorbed through the skin. According to different scientific studies there might be a connection between breast cancer and Aluminium Chlorohydrate. In the past, this was also the reason for warnings of deodorants with aluminium salts promoted with a long-term effect of 72 hours.

In certified natural cosmetics the use of alum is allowed without any restrictions, whereas chlorinated aluminium salts are forbidden.

Look carefully on the INCI list when choosing a deodorant!
